November 20, 2006- Austin, TX: Billy Bob signed a handsome Texas-sized Gibson Guitar at the Recording Academy Honors in Austin, Texas. Billy Bob autographed the 10’ guitar, which was painted by Karen Paul-Burges and will be placed among 35 others throughout the city of Austin.

All of the guitars were auctioned off with 100% of the proceeds benefiting four Austin charities.  For more information on Austin GuitarTown go to www.austinguitartown.com.

Billy Bob and Tim McGraw joined forces with FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS director Peter Berg to stage a fundraising concert to benefit the Gridiron Heroes, an organization dedicated to helping school football players who have suffered serious spinal cord injuries while playing the game.  Their concert in Austin on April 10, 2004 was a huge success, despite the freezing cold weather and relentless rain.  Tim McGraw, Billy Bob, and Peter Berg are shown announcing the event).

Billy Bob decorated a baseball base for auction at Yahoo!Auctions to help raise fnds for RBI. The auction description states: "He has used acrylic paint, miniature red, white and blue stars and silver glitter in his design and has written his signature with a permanent Sharpie pen." The proceeds from the sale of this base went to Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI). RBI is a grassroots outreach program designed to promote and encourage youth interest in baseball, increase the self-esteem of disadvantaged children, and encourage kids to stay in school. This program has helped more than 100,000 boys and girls each year in 37 cities nationwide since its inception in 1989.

Dishmag.com held an online auction through Country Cares this past February to benefit St Jude Children's Research Hospital. The auction featured  "Rare, Unusual and Unforgettable Items" from Country Music's Biggest Stars and Friends including Barbara Mandrell, Terri Clark, The Ultimate Elvis Presley Experience courtesy of Graceland, Kathie Lee Gifford, Lucinda Williams, George Jones, Ryan Adams, Willie Nelson, Billy Bob Thornton, Andy Griggs, Marty Stewart, Lonestar, Montgomery Gentry, SheDaisy, Rascall Flatts, and Brad Paisley, just to name a few.

Each Christmas season, No More Mr. Nice Guy Alice Cooper holds a fundraiser for the Christian-themed youth-assistance program, the Rock Solid Foundation.  The holiday event is called Alice Cooper's Christmas Pudding (a night of comedy and music).  Billy Bob appeared at the 2003 fundraiser along with such double-jointed talents as Weird Al Yankevich and the Destiny Dancers. A nice thing about Christmas . . . school's out!

The Library Foundation holds the Gregory Peck Reading Series to raise money for the Los Angeles Public Libraries. In 1995, Academy Award-winning actor Gregory Peck created an annual series of literary readings featuring acclaimed actors, who read aloud from their favorite plays, poems, short stories, novels, essays, and letters. The readings are a benefit of Library Associates' membership at the Sustainer ($250) level and higher and take place in the Central Library's Mark Taper Auditorium.  Billy Bob and Bruce Dern (shown at left with the late Gregory Peck standing between them) graced the stage at the Mark Taper Theater in the Richard Riordan Library in Downtown Los Angeles, to present works by Erskine Caldwell, William Faulkner, Jim Murray, and BBT favorite Benjamin Franklin.

On April 24, 2001, the Cable Television Public Affairs Association bestowed upon Cable Positive, a cable-industry organization dedicated to raising awareness of HIV and AIDS, the 2001 Joel A. Berger Award for the National HIV Testing Day 2000 campaign.  This campaign included the two :30 PSA (public service announcement) spots featuring Billy Bob.  Other public figures showcased in these PSAs: poet Maya Angelou and an obscure little boy band called 'N SYNC.  (Next to Billy Bob, who notices 'N SYNC?  Just kidding, Justin!)  The microscopic photo to the left shows a broadcast of Billy Bob's entertaining and informative PSAs in Times Square, New York.  The spots aired on major cable stations like Nickelodeon, TNT, even the goldanged Cartoon Channel.  The :30 spots are titled "Smarter" and "Mistakes" and appear on PSA Reel 10, which might still be available to order from Cable Positive.
Billy Bob and many other celebrities (including Jeff Goldblum, Russell Crowe, Juliette Lewis, Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp, Iggy Pop, Mare Winningham, Milla Jovovich, Bijou Phillips, and Bruce Willis) lent their singing talents to the Hollywood Goes Wild CD to raise money for Los Angeles' Wildlife Waystation.  Located in the mountains just north of the San Fernando Valley, the Wildlife Waystation has been rescuing, protecting, and rehabilitating wild animals ranging from baby possums, birds, cougars, and bears to exotic jungle cats.  No komodo dragons, though.

Billy Bob was on hand for an auction of Roddy McDowall's celebrity photographs on October 20, 2000, to raise money for the Motion Picture and Television Fund.  As Sharon Stone worked her magic as auctioneer, Billy Bob appealed to the Sotheby's audience for a high bid on McDowall's portrait of him, adding, "I'm very fragile."  John Ritter bought the photo for $2,000, and Billy Bob happily autographed it for his old pal.  The Motion Picture and Television Fund is an industry charity that provides retirement facilities for industry seniors, high quality and affordable health care facilities for industry workers, and grant support to community, educational, artistic, and humanitarian causes financed directly from the paycheck withholding donations of industry workers.
