Movie Quote
GUN CLERK: What's a matter? You the sensitive type?
Plot
In the mood for some mondo bizarro slacker action? Set in
post-1992-riots Los Angeles, this eclectically cast episodic comedy recounts the
misadventures of John Boyz (played by James LeGros), a slacker living hand-to-mouth in Venice Beach.
When the surfside urban jungle gets too rough for John, he pays a visit to a local gun store, where
an edgy, sarcastic Gun Clerk isn't so sure he wants to
sell a gun to the indecisive and decidedly broke Gen-Xer.
What Billy Bob Gets To Do
Billy Bob gets to display a collection of stuffed owls that would put Norman Bates to
shame while getting in touch with his inner Charlton Heston.
Backstory
All sorts of fave actors pop up in this
flick. Keep your eyes peeled for John
Cusack (of PUSHING TIN and THE ICE
HARVEST),
Viggo Mortensen, Ethan Hawke, Steve Buscemi (from ARMAGEDDON
and FRANKY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD), Kim Wayans, Lisa
Zane (who was also in GOING
OVERBOARD), and other fun and familiar faces.
Sadly, the Pioneer Bakery on Rose Avenue, featured in a couple
of key scenes to provide some allegorical and edible props, is
no more. What Billy Bob likely didn't know at the time
that he was being driven to the set to shoot (no pun intended)
his scene was that the production wrangler hired to ferry him to
work was one of Los Angeles' more notorious poets, the lovely
Iris Berry. Well . . . have Gun Clerk, will travel!
