Movie Quote
BILLY BOB THORNTON: And that's when you're acting with a
leading lady who's really tall? You need to . . . use a
couple apple boxes. I mean, Alan Ladd did it. I do
it.
Plot
Remember the scene at the beginning of ARMAGEDDON
when the bike messenger (Eddie Griffin) pedals his
small, white bulldog named Little Richard into Manhattan, where the dog attacks some Godzilla toys
right before the asteroids destroy the Chrysler Building?
Well, that small, white bulldog (seen in the above photo to the
left of Steve Buscemi) is the Franky of this
tale. He tries to capitalize on his entré into movie
superstardom by seeking advice from the likes of Michael
Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer, Griffin, Steve Buscemi, Bruce Willis,
Playboy Playmate Alison
Armitage, and our man Billy Bob.
What Billy Bob Gets To Do
According to Planeteer Judi Fryer, who has actually seen the
film, "Billy Bob's contribution
is giving Franky advice about how to "rise to the
occasion" when appearing with a "taller" leading lady.
And . . . Franky gets to kiss Billy Bob on the cheek at the end.
What a "lucky dog" Franky is." Once we got
our copy, we had to concur, although our favorite scene is
actually the one in which Liv Tyler sees Franky as she comes
through a doorway, then just has to kiss him. The
expression on her face is too sweet for words.
Backstory
Imagine you are Brendan Kelly, working
actor. You've starred in the TV series OZ, and films like
MALCOLM X, THE ROCK, CON AIR, CLOCKERS, and THE LIZZIE MC GUIRE
MOVIE. So one day, Michael Bay calls you at home with a
hot work offer in his latest flick . . . for your dog!
"What a laugh I had," Kelly recalled, "but as long as someone in the
family's working, who cares?" The runt of a litter
adopted by Kelly when he was visiting Paris (that would be
France, not Texas, Mr. President), Franky got to chew on
Godzilla, and Brendan made this 12-minute black and white flick
with some of the cast. The film did play at the 1999 Slamdance
Festival. Watch it if, for no other reason, than to
howl with laughter when Franky attacks some balloons and watches
the costs get taken out of his per diem. Steve Buscemi
seems mighty obsessed about Franky's per diem.
