Movie Quote
BILLY BOB: (Unintelligible due to lousy sound
transfer, which they rerecorded, looping in another actor's
voice. How fitting for a film whose tagline is: Out
there, no one hears you scream.)
Plot
A weekend hunt in the Deep South goes horribly awry when four
city slickers run afoul of some psychotic hillbillies.
What Billy Bob Gets To Do
Billy Bob plays a backwoods thug who gets tossed out the back of a pick-up truck.
You can see him just
fine in full Li'l Abner mode, but you can't understand a word he says, thanks to lousy sound looping (see
SOUTH OF RENO and FOR THE BOYS for the very opposite problem!).
Backstory
It's Billy Bob's first silver screen performance!
This non-budget riff on DELIVERANCE nabbed our hero his SAG card, but only after stars Ken
Swofford, Joey Travolta, and Sam Bottoms leaned on the filmmakers keep their promise that Billy
Bob would have some lines. He suffered for his art during
the shoot, which put him in the mud during a rainstorm, causing him
to catch pneumonia. The
psycho hillbillies include Nightstalker lookalike Billy Drago (who, that same year,
played mobster Frank Nitti as a white-clad angel of death in THE UNTOUCHABLES) and Billy Bob repeat offender Mickey Jones (SLING
BLADE, THE LAST REAL COWBOYS). Throw in a
fetching, pre-NYPD BLUE Kim Delaney and a solid, macho heroic turn
by Clu Gullagher, and you've got enough cheese to flavor your popcorn.
