Plot
Set in feudal-era
Japan, this eco-fable follows the exploits of a valiant prince
named Ashitaka, who receives a curse during battle with a dying
demon god. As he ventures beyond his village into the
remote forests of northern Japan--riding a beautiful elk!--to
find a way to revoke the curse, he stumbles onto an industrial
village where society's misfits have found a safe community and
meaningful life running an ironworks. Unfortunately, the
ironworks are polluting the lush, surrounding forest, which is
populated by powerful gods and spirits. To defend the
forest, a young girl appears from the forest at night, riding
bareback atop a magnificent white wolf god. The girl,
Mononoke, attacks the ironworks. Her encounters with
Ashitaka set into motion a final, apocalyptic confrontation
between the supernatural forces of nature and man as Ashitaka
desperately tries to forge a peace between the two
worlds.
What Billy Bob Gets To Do
Billy Bob voices the part of Jiko Bo, a wily little toad of a monk
sporting wooden stilt-heeled sandals. Working at the
behest of the Emperor, Jiko Bo has designs on the trophy rack of a deer god who may hold the key to the survival of
the enchanted forest. He tags after Ashitaki, sensing
that the prince will lead him closer to the deer
god.
