NARRATOR:  Deleted.

Plot
Based on the novel by James Jones (who also wrote From Here to Eternity), THE THIN RED LINE follows a group of young soldiers through the Battle of Guadalcanal.  We see the war's horrors from different soldiers' points of view as Charlie Company division tries to keep it together.

What Billy Bob Gets To Do
He provided a voice over narration that was eventually deleted from the film.  We call this a case of THE MAN WHO WASN'T THERE syndrome.

Backstory

Billy Bob received a "thanks to" in the film's credits.  The film was nominated for seven Oscars and featured a spectacular cast: Sean Penn, Adrian Brody, John Savage, Jared Leto, Nick Nolte, Tim Blake Nelson, John C. Reilly, Elias Koteas, Woody Harrelson, John Cusack, George Clooney, Ben Chaplin, James Caviezel, and John Travolta.  Most remarkable is the fact that director Terrence Malick hadn't made a film in 20 years (in 1978, he directed DAYS OF HEAVEN) when he undertook THE THIN RED LINE.  Another filmed version of the same novel was released in 1964 and starred Keir Dullea and Jack Warden.
