Billy Bob's Filmography

THE WINNER (1997)

Distributor
Live Entertainment

Director
Alex Cox

Character
Jack

Movie Quote
JACK:  You know, I'm the one that knows you.   You should take some comfort in that.  Most people tell their little lies, and nobody ever notices.

Plot
Philip (Vincent D'Onofrio) is a naive man who has developed an uncanny winning streak, which has gotten him noticed by all the wrong people in Las Vegas.  When Philip falls for the wrong girl (Rebecca De Mornay), her very jealous pit boss boyfriend (Billy Bob) goes ballistic.

What Billy Bob Gets To Do
Returning to Vegas once again, Billy Bob runs the gamut from p-whipped to explosively violent, chewing gum all the while.  He keeps an eye on things as the right-hand man to Mr. Kingman, owner of the Paradise Casino (played by Delroy Lindo), but he can't seem to control his no-good, two-timing, lounge singer galpal, Louise (Rebecca DeMornay). He gets to destroy a really ugly vase, as well as own up to problems in the, ahem, plumbing department.  Occasionally, other characters adjust his toupee.

Backstory
The cast includes many memorable players: Vincent D'Onofrio, Frank Whaley, Rebecca De Mornay, Delroy Lindo, and Michael Madsen.  The film's original title was A DARKER PURPOSE (based on a stage play).  Alex Cox (who appears briefly as a Eurotrash choreographer who busses Jack on the cheek) has disavowed this film after the producers recut and rescored it while he was out of the country. By the way, that's Billy Bob standing to the right of the vertical title on the video package.

There are several versions of the film's soundtrack coming from, of all places, Japan.

BBT On DVD
THE WINNER is currently only available on VHS from Live Entertainment and is the producers', not director Alex Cox's, cut of the film.  Japanese distributors have a director's cut version floating around somewhere.
