Film Quote
WILLIAM: We don't let 25-year-olds tell us how to make movies.

Plot
Set in Los Angeles in the early 1980s and based on Bret Easton Ellis' short story collection of the same title, the film follows the intersecting lives, hard-partying of a number of the beautiful people, including a drug-addled new wave singer (played by Mel Raido), a sleazy kidnapper (Mickey Rourke) and his unwilling/unwitting nephew accomplice (Brad Renfro), a high-powered studio exec (Billy Bob) who is trying to reconcile with his estranged wife (Kim Basinger) while still seeing his girlfriend (Winona Ryder) on the side, a disaffected young man (Lou Taylor Pucci) struggling to connect with his beach-bum father (Chris Isaak), and a vapid party girl (Amber Heard) who may be spreading more than good cheer with her many sex partners.

What Billy Bob Gets To Do

He gets to romantically triangulate between his wife (played by Kim Basinger) and his TV newscaster mistress (Winona Ryder) while reviewing rushes for a movie about a giant tomato.

Backstory
Sadly, THE INFORMERS was Brad Renfo's final screen appearance. The gifted young actor best remembered from THE CLIENT died from a drug overdose about a year before the THE INFORMERS was released. We were sorry to hear that a subplot involving a vampire was cut before the film started shooting.

The Informers DVD cover artBBT On DVD
THE INFORMERS is available on DVD and Blu-Ray and comes complete commentary from the director and cast, as well as the documentary Human Intersections: Making The Informers. One fact that amused us to no end--the filmmakers went all the way to Uruguay to film a kidnapping scene set in the Webmaster's scenic hometown of Van Nuys, California. Who knew that Uruguay so closely resembled Van Nuys of the early 1980s?
